Lester B. Pearson Public School proudly opened its doors in September of 2002. Our school is named in honour of the Right Honourable Lester B. Pearson, a former Prime Minister of Canada. He was a man of vision who was proud to be a Canadian. It is our honour to carry the red and white colours of the national flag that he brought to our nation. Lester B. Pearson was respected around the world for his work on behalf of world peace receiving the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts. Since its opening, staff, students, parents and community members have worked to develop the following mission statement for our school:
A Community of Learners
Coming Together, Working Together, Achieving Together
Our mission statement explains our focus. The vision for our school community is that it will be a strong and caring place where all partners focus on making each student as successful as they possibly can.
We are currently home to approximately 650 students from junior kindergarten to grade 8, with both a French Immersion and English programming. Our students represent over 50 countries and many nationalities. We build on our diversities to develop a unified strength as a school community. Although large in number, it is frequently commented that our school has a warm and welcoming ‘small school’ feel. Our students feel welcomed, respected and valued. We are fortunate that our students are able to remain with us right through from kindergarten to grade eight. We also welcome students from Millen Woods Public School when they come to us after grade six. Our neighbouring secondary school is Bluevale Collegiate Institute.
We are very proud of our students and often receive positive comments about their behaviour both at school and when on field trips. Expectations for our students are based on the four pillars of:
Respect – To have a strong sense of self-respect, personal responsibility and respect for others.
Academics – To work to reach your highest level of academic achievement.
Teamwork – To work as effective team members.
Leadership – To use opportunities to be innovative, to demonstrate initiative and take responsibility for yourself, for our school and for our community.
As the Lester B. Pearson LYNX we RATL!
