Update on threatening messages found in some WRDSB schools over the last month
from the WRDSB website
As you may have heard in the media, some of our schools have reported messages found on school property and over social media that are threatening in nature and made reference to an act of violence. While Waterloo Regional Police Services have determined that these threats are not credible, together we continue to take these very seriously. Our priority is to ensure that our schools remain safe places where students experience a caring learning environment that addresses student and staff well-being.
It is unacceptable to make threats towards anyone, and the impact of this type of threat in a school community is understandably significant, especially given the recent events in the United States. Our students have the right to learn in a safe environment without fear. No matter the intention, we take any intimidation or threat of violence seriously and the authors of these threats need to understand that they will be held accountable.
Every precaution is being taken to ensure the safety of our students and staff. We have protocols in place to safeguard our school communities including following security procedures when dealing with difficult situations. We will continue to work closely with our partners at Waterloo Regional Police Services to investigate these threats and continue to keep our schools safe places to learn.
If you have information related to any threats, please contact any school staff or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
