Registration for WRDSB Before and After School Programs Opens Starting June 16!
At the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB), we’re proud to offer high-quality Before & After School Programs that support children from Junior Kindergarten through Grade 6.
Before and After School Programs in the WRDSB
Whether your child is starting school or continuing their educational journey, we’re here to provide seamless licensed child care and engaging experiences before and after the bell rings. Our Extended Day program offers:
- Safe, nurturing spaces led by experienced qualified Early Childhood Educators
- Play based experiences in familiar school environments for smoother transitions
- Flexible full-time and part-time options
- Affordable care under the Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care (CWELCC) Agreement
We know families experienced challenges last year with Before & After School registration and we have been working with OneList to address these issues and ensure a smoother process for the 2025-26 school year.
New for the 2025-26 School Year
Based on valuable feedback from families and lessons learned this past year, we’ve made important updates:
- Changes to Part-Time Care Options
- Part-time care options are still available, however, we are making changes based on feedback we received from the community through the extended day survey conducted in the fall of 2024.
- Starting in September 2025, part-time care options will need to follow a set schedule (e.g., Mon/Wed/Fri or Tues/Thurs). This change will improve space availability and help more families access care. With these new fixed part time options, two part time families can access care creating a full time space.
- All registrations will be effective the week of September 1st.
- Enhanced Registration Platform
- We’ll continue working with OneList for 2025-26, and we’ve been actively collaborating with them to address challenges and improve performance.
- These improvements are designed to make the process faster, more reliable, and more transparent.
- A Program Families Can Trust
- Our programs are delivered by Registered Early Childhood Educators and Educational Assistants who already support your child during the school day.
- Guided by How Does Learning Happen? Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years, children will enjoy engaging, play-based learning in a familiar environment.
- For Families Receiving Child Care Subsidy
- If you are currently receiving Child Care Subsidy and your reason for care or approved hours of care are less than 5 days a week, please contact your Subsidy Caseworker to discuss your schedule and care needs for the 2025-2026 school year.
Phased Registration Opening
To ensure a smooth registration process for all families, we are implementing a phased registration approach. Access to registration will be based on the first letter of your child’s school.
Please note that there is no advantage to registering on an earlier day – spaces are managed by school and fairly across all registration days, so you do not need to worry if your program’s registration opens later in the week. This approach will help manage high volumes and ensure the system performs optimally.
Please note the registration date below for the school your child will attend for the 2025-2026 school year. Registration will open at 7:00 am:
